They encourage you to wear your favorite pajamas while you enjoy homemade hot chocolate, cookies, strolling musicians, the friendly conductor, Santas sweet elves, a playful teddy bear, and a visit from Santa Claus.

    Seats on the Christmas Train are pre-assigned. The posted time indicates the beginning of the show aboard the train. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to showtime for check-in.

    The structure of the Prakasam Barrage stretches 1223.5 m across the Krishna River connecting Krishna and Guntur districts. The barrage serves also as a road bridge and spans over a lake. The three canals associated with the barrage run through the city of Vijayawada crossing it and giving it a Venetian appearance.

    It began in the hands of captain Buckle and was revised in 1839 and 1841 by captain Best and captain Lake. After the endorsement of Major Cotton, the board of Directors of East India Company approved it on 5 January 1850. The dam was started in 1852 and completed in 1855.

    Later, the Government constructed a bridge that was named after Tanguturi Prakasam, the first Chief Minister of Andhra.

    The dam provides views of the lake. It has become a tourist attraction of Vijayawada. Barrage has total 76 pillars in total, 70 pillars belongs to Guntur district and 6pillars belongs to Krishna district.

    The Undavalli Caves, a monolithic example of Indian rock-cut architecture and one of the finest testimonials to ancient viswakarma sthapathis, are located in Undavalli of Guntur district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The caves are located 6 km south west from Vijayawada, 22 km north east of Guntur City.

    These caves were carved out of solid sandstone on a hillside in the 4th to 5th centuries A.D. There are several caves and the best known largest one has four stories with a huge recreated statue of Vishnu in a reclining posture, sculpted from a single block of granite inside the second floor.

    Undavalli caves are an example of how many Buddhist artifacts and stupas in Andhra were converted into Hindu temples and deities.

    It was originally a Jain cave resembling the architecture of Udayagiri and Khandgiri. The main cave is one of the earliest examples of Gupta architecture, primarily primitive rock-cut monastery cells carved into the sandstone hills.

    The walls of the caves display sculptures carved by skilled craftsmen. The caves are associated with the Jain kings of 420 to 620 A.D.

    The caves are surrounded by the green countryside. From the high hill above the cave overlooking the Krishna River many fine specimens of rock cut architecture can be seen.

    There is a legend about the caves that says that there exists a 9 kilometres long underground tunnel leading to the sacred Mangalgiri Mountain, although it has never been found.

    Prime minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Andhra Pradeshs new capital Amaravati at Uddandarayunipalem village in Guntur district on Oct 22, 2015.

    Union Ministers M Venkaiah Naidu, Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Nirmala Sitaraman, AP and Telangana Governor E S L Narasimhan and Chief Ministers of AP and Telangana N Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao, respectively, were among those present on the occasion of -shila nyas- in the village, about 40 kms from Vijayawada, the commercial hub of the state.

    As per a call given by CM Chandrababu Naidu, soil and water from 16,000 villages in the state and prominent pilgrim centres in the country have been brought to the capital region to be used in the construction of the capital city.

    Singapore government agencies have prepared the master plans for the three-layered capital — seed capital, capital city and capital region.

    The tallest Dhyana Buddha, measuring 125 feet, the statue at Amaravati in Guntur district.

    Situated on the banks of Krishna River, the Dhyana Buddha theme project is going to boost tourism in Amaravati, which is in the riverfront capital region.

    The tourism department is planning to operate cruises from Vijayawada to Amaravati.

    The works began in January 2004 on a five-acre site.

    It is a fusion of 50 types of Buddhist sculptures and statues from 145 major heritage sites all over India.

    They have taken the essence of Buddhist teachings found in 24 chapters and 424 stanzas to create 200 panels in the main hall Dhyana Mandiram. The number of visitors in last year was around 5 lakh, including Dalai Lama.

    All around the boundary wall there will be 300 small Dhyana Buddha statues facing the main statue.

    According to Vajrayana traditional sources the Buddha preached at Dharanikota/Dhanyakatakam and conducted Kalachakra ceremony, which would take the antiquity of Amaravati back to 500 BCE.

    The Amaravati Buddhist sculptures are world-famous. Slabs with Buddhist inscriptions were found in its groundwork, the temple is said to have been a Buddhist shrine in the previous times.

    Amaravati is also known as Punyakshetra. When Subramanya killed the demon Tarakasura, the Shivalingam in his throat broke and fell in five different spots, which became the Pancharama kshetras. The foremost of these is Amareswara at Amaravati where Indra and the Devas are believed to have worshipped Shiva.

    Amareswaram is considered sacred because of three things, the Krishna River, an important Kshetra with a Sthalamahatyam and the Sri Mahalinga Murthy, which are three sacred principles embodied in one.

    It was also the capital of Satavahanas, the first great Andhra kings who ruled from the 2nd century BCE to the 3rd century CE, after the downfall of Maurya empire.

    Lord Shiva, present in the form of a 15 ft. high white marble Shiva lingam. The temple is surrounded by 4 high gopuras built in typical Dravidian style.
