The National Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual two-week event that celebrates springtime in Washington, DC as well as the 1912 gift of the cherry blossom trees and the enduring friendship between the people of the US and Japan.
The Target Performance Stage plays host to a wide range of performances, from Japanese culture groups to local acoustic musicians. Sylvan Theatre is on the grounds of the Washington Monument.
The Freer and Sackler Galleries, in partnership with Otakorp, Inc., and the DC Anime Club, will host a cosplay (short for “costume play”) contest as part of the anime marathon. The contest is open to individuals or groups. The first twenty individuals or groups who respond will be accepted.

Southwest Waterfront, 600 Water Street, SW, on Saturday, April 3 at 5:00 pm as the Washington Waterfront Association kicks off the fifth annual Prelude to the Fireworks – a free, 3-hour festival of family entertainment that includes live musical performances, kids craft activities, cuisine from local restaurants and special guest appearances for the kids to enjoy.

The Kannada and Telugu people celebrate the festival with great fanfare; gatherings of the extended family and a sumptuous feast are “”de rigueur””. The day, however, begins with ritual showers (oil bath) followed by prayers, and then the eating of a specific mixture of six tastes, called Yugadi Pachhadi in Telugu and Bevu-Bella in Kannada, symbolizes the fact that life is a mixture of different experiences (sadness, happiness, anger, fear, disgust, surprise) , which should be accepted together and with equanimity.

The show, features favorite heroes and villains from all-time popular Broadway musicals and TV cartoons such as The Wizard of Oz, 101 Dalmatians, Annie, Powerpuff Girls and Little Red Riding Hood among others. It tells the story of a teen-girl sleepover where these famous heroes and villains invade the girls’ vivid dream.
The Smithsonian Kite Festival was founded in 1967 by aviation pioneer Paul E. Garber (1899-1992). He is a founder of the National Air & Space Museum (NASM) and was NASM””s first historian Emeritus.
The Festival features kite fliers from across the United States and the world. Traditionally a part of the festivities at cherry blossom time in the Nation’s Capital, the Smithsonian’s colorful Kite Festival is one of the most popular annual events held on the National Mall.

His Excellency Ichiro Fujisaki, Ambassador of Japan, leads the tableau of Washington dignitaries to welcome the crowd that fills the majestic balconies throughout the Great Hall of the National Building Museum.
The Gardens Figure Skating Club presented its sixth annual spring ice show, The Good, The Bad & The Wicked on Ice with 4 shows: March 27 at 1:00 and 3:30 and on March 28 at 1:00 and 3:30 at the Gardens Ice House Patrick Arena, Laurel, MD.
The Good, The Bad & The Wicked on Ice, features favorite heroes and villains from all-time popular Broadway musicals and TV cartoons such as The Wizard of Oz, 101 Dalmatians, Annie, Powerpuff Girls and Little Red Riding Hood among others. It tells the story of a teen-girl sleepover where these famous heroes and villains invade the girls’ vivid dream.
The cast of the show includes local skaters ages 3 through adult creating a visually exciting theatrical experience. The show is an entertaining way to experience the magic and artistry of figure skating. This year’s show also includes a special performance by the METROLINERS, a synchronized skating team representing the Bowie Figure Skating Club, Bowie, MD.
