  • Worlds Fair Park, Knoxville, TN, US – Pictures – Upcoming Video

    Knoxville is in Knox County, Tennessee. It is the third-largest city in the state. It is the site of the 1982 World’s Fair.

    The ‘scruffy little city’ called Knoxville sits nestled on the Tennessee River about an hour from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. One can still see remnants of the 1982 World’s Fair in the Sunsphere, a rising structure topped with a gold sphere which dots Knoxville’s skyline.

    Knoxville is also home to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. The basketball teams play in the 21,000+ seat Thompson Boling Arena, and the nationally recognized football team plays in Neyland Stadium, one of the largest on-campus stadiums in the world at 103,000+ seating capacity.

    The city is also the home or birthplace of a number of cultural figures, such as authors Cormac McCarthy, James Agee, and Alex Haley, and filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, who mentions the city in all of his films Less culturally, actor and daredevil Johnny Knoxville is from the city.

  • Lookout Mountain Battlefield(Point Park), Lookout Mountain, TN, US – Pictures – Upcoming Video

    In 1863, Union and Confederate forces fought for control of Chattanooga, known as the “Gateway to the Deep South.” The Confederates were victorious at nearby Chickamauga in September. However, renewed fighting in Chattanooga that November provided Union troops victory and control of the city. The 5,300 acre Chickamauga Battlefield is the scene of the last major Confederate victory of the American Civil War.

    The 3,000 acre Lookout Mountain Battlefield contains monuments, historical markers, trails, and scenic vistas. Point Park, a unit of the Lookout Mountain Battlefield, is located on top of the mountain and is the most prominent feature in the area. The Visitor Center, located across the street from the Point Park entrance gate, displays artist James Walker’s 13 x 30 foot painting the “Battle of Lookout Mountain.” Self-starting audio visual programs and various other artifacts and exhibits are also located inside the Visitor Center.

    Chickamauga Battlefield features a 7 mile self-guiding auto tour, monuments, historical tablets, hiking trails and horse trails.

    Chattanooga is the 4th largest city in Tennessee. It is in Southeast Tennessee on the Tennessee River and near the border of Georgia. It is, in fact, the home of the Chattanooga Choo Choo, the tune made popular by Glenn Miller.

    During the American Civil War, Chattanooga was a major railroad station and at the center of a number of pitched battles. Walnut Street Bridge is now the world’s longest pedestrian bridge.

    Miller Industries, the largest tow truck manufacturer in the world; Chattanooga is the birthplace of the tow truck. Within the last ten years the city has won 3 national awards for outstanding “livability”, and 9 Gunther Blue Ribbon Awards for excellence in housing and consolidated planning.

    Montgomery is the capital, second most populous city, and the fourth most populous metropolitan area in Alabama. It is located southeast of the center of the state, in the Gulf Coastal Plain.

    The city was incorporated in 1819, as a merger of two towns situated along the Alabama River. It became the state capital in 1846. In February 1861, Montgomery was selected as the first capital of the Confederate States of America, until the seat of government moved to Richmond, Virginia in May of that year.

    During the mid-20th century, Montgomery was a primary site in the African-American Civil Rights Movement, including the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the Selma to Montgomery marches.

    Today, in addition to housing many Alabama government agencies, Montgomery has a large military presence due to Maxwell Air Force Base, public universities Alabama State University, Troy University (Montgomery campus), and Auburn University-Montgomery, private colleges/universities Faulkner University, Huntingdon College, and ABA-accredited law school Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, high-tech manufacturing including Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, and cultural attractions like the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.

    Vicksburg is a city in west central Mississippi. The city is most famous as the “Gibraltar of the Confederacy,” as cannons on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River prevented the US from controlling this vital water route during much of the American Civil War.

    After lengthy maneuverings to get troops to the city, U.S. Major General Ulysses S. Grant, having failed in a major assualt on May 22, 1863, put the city under siege.

    The siege lasted until July 4 when C.S. Lieutenant General John C. Pemberton surrendered. Along with the Confederate defeat at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania the previous day, this marked the turning point of the war.

    In addition to the battlefield, the major draw for today’s visitors is the collection of “river boat” casinos.

    It is the only city in Warren County. It is located 234 miles (377 km) northwest of New Orleans on the Mississippi and Yazoo rivers, and 40 miles (65 km) due west of Jackson, the state capital.

  • Biloxi, MS, US – Pictures – Upcoming Video

    Biloxi is a city in Harrison County, on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. It’s well known for its beaches and casinos, though one casino and the beach are still in repair.

    The city is part of the Gulfport-Biloxi metropolitan area and the Gulfport-Biloxi-Pascagoula, Mississippi Combined Statistical Area. Pre-Katrina, Biloxi was the third largest city in Mississippi; but with its population losses following that storm, Hattiesburg now has that distinction.

    The beachfront of Biloxi lies directly on the Mississippi Sound, with barrier islands scattered off the coast and into the Gulf of Mexico.

    Keesler Air Force Base lies within the city and is home to the 81st Training Wing and the 403rd Wing of the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

    Many attractions are still closed due to severe damage in the 2005 hurricane season. Except for limited stretches, most beaches in the area are closed. Some small stretches near the intersection of I-110 and US-90 are open, but most access to water is limited or prohibited due to storm debris in the water.
