  • Memphis, TN, US – Pictures – Upcoming Video

    Memphis is the largest city in the state of Tennessee. The state rests in the southeastern portion of the US. The city’s claims to fame include Graceland, the mansion Elvis Presley lived in during his later years. Maybe more importantly, Memphis is the considered by many to be the home of blues music.

    Although downtown Memphis has experienced quite a rebirth and renewal in the last few years, the center of the city is older; it is full of new development, teeming with change and coming into its own.

    Memphis is on the southwestern corner of Tennessee, with the Mississippi River and the state of Arkansas bordering it to the west and the state of Mississippi to the south.

    * Downtown Memphis. Buy a ticket and take the trolley to get a good overview of the area.

    * Beale Street – “Home of the Blues”. Dozens of bars and clubs, most of them featuring live music.

    * Mississippi River. River tours available most days through a variety of providers. Tom Lee Park is a nice place to view the river.

    * National Civil Rights Museum, 450 Mulberry St.

    * Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art, 119 South Main St.

    * Ornamental Metal Museum, 374 Metal Museum Drive.

    * Fire Museum of Memphis, 118 Adams Ave.

    * Mud Island River Park, 125 North Front St. – The park is accessible by monorail, made famous by a chase scene in the movie “The Firm”. The park contains a museum of the Mississippi River and a scale model of the river. Visitors are welcome to remove their shoes and wade through the replica mighty Mississippi. The “Gulf of Mexico” is a large pool in which visitors may rent paddle boats. At the tip of the park is an excellent vantage point of the city and the river. The northern end of the island is occupied by HarborTown, a model community. Entry to the park is free.

    NATS in association with SSVT proudly presents this program(Classical, semi-classical and folk dances of India).

    North America Telugu Society (NATS) is a non-profit national organization for Telugus living in North America. NATS primary objective is to address the needs and concerns that affect the everyday lives of Telugu people living in North America.

    Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind (SRMAB) is the humble creation of a group of visionaries. SRMAB was founded in 1969 with the motto “Service to Humanity is service to God” by Sri. T V Srinivasan, Late Sri. Thirumurthy and friends while seeking spiritual enlightenment, were inspired by the simplicity and thoughtfulness of the great guru Sri Ramana Maharishi, and motivated to take social action.

    SRMAB’s Vision: “All people with disability will have the opportunity to fulfill their potential and live life with self-respect and dignity.”

    Over the past 4 plus decades, SRMAB services have reached over 16000 persons through the School (IBR) and Thirumurthy Rural Development Centre (IBR). This is supplemented with several community based rehabilitation (CBR) programs in semi-urban and rural areas in Karnataka. Covering 7 districts, and working in about 1800 villages.

    SRMAB reaches many more thousands by training teachers and CBR professional from across the country & overseas in its HRD initiatives.

    Bharatanatyam is a classical dance form originating from Tamil Nadu , a state in Southern India. This popular Tamil dance form called Bharatanatyam is a 20th century reconstruction of Cathir, the art of temple dancers.

    Dance and music as part of extra curricular activity was introduced in the year 1973. In the year 1982 they started teaching dances in classical style by touch and feel method for the first time to the composition of Bhagawan Ramana to the students of the Academy.

    From the year 1983 to date our students have toured and performed in about 2000 shows in India and have toured UK, US & Italy.

    LURAY VALLEY MUSEUM

Visitors begin the tour at the log Stonyman building which houses an overview of the Valley’s history, supplemented with historic documents, decorative arts, items of clothing and artifacts.

    CAR AND CARRIAGE CARAVAN
    The Car and Carriage Caravan Museum exhibit is a tour of milestones in transportation, including authentically restored cars, carriages, coaches and costumes, dating from 1725 to 1941. The centerpiece of the collection is the 1892 Benz, one of the oldest cars in the country still in operating condition. Other highlights include an 1840 Conestoga Wagon, a 1908 Baker Electric, a 1913 Stanley Steamer, and Rudolph Valentino””s 1925 Rolls Royce.

    Fall in Shenandoah
    It’s that time again! The crisp days of late September and October are here and Shenandoah is the place to be. Cooler temps bring all kinds of changes as the animals get ready for winter, and trees and fall wildflowers put on the show of the year.
    There are four entrances into Shenandoah National Park and numerous gateway communities that offer services. The park’s four entrances are located at:
    Front Royal, accessible via I-66 and Route 340.
    Thornton Gap, accessible via Route 211.
    Swift Run Gap, accessible via Route 33.
    Rockfish Gap, accessible via I-64 and Route 250(Rockfish Gap is also the northern entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway).
    Shenandoah National Park has over 500 miles of trails, including 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Many trails are accessed from Skyline Drive. Some short trails lead to a waterfall or viewpoint; longer and more difficult trails penetrate deep into the forest and wilderness.
    The Skyline Drive runs 105 miles north and south along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park and is the only public road through the park. It takes about three hours to travel the entire length of the park on a clear day.
    As you travel along Skyline Drive you will notice mileposts on the west side (right side if you are traveling south) of the road. These posts help you find your way through the park and help you locate areas of interest. The mileposts begin with 0.0 at Front Royal and continue to 105 at the southern end of the park. The largest developed area, Big Meadows, is near the center of the park, at milepost 51. All park maps and information use these mileposts as a reference.
    The maximum speed limit is 35 mph, so you can roll down your windows, feel the breeze and experience every curve and turn of this beautiful drive. There are 75 overlooks that offer stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley to the west or the rolling piedmont to the east.
    Deer, black bear, wild turkey, and a host of other woodland animals call Shenandoah home and regularly cross Skyline Drive in their daily travels.
    RVs, camping trailers, and horse trailers are welcome, but be prepared to shift into low gear. Also, be sure you will clear Marys Rock Tunnel (just south of Thornton Gap entrance from Route 211) at 12’8.
