    Snow is a type of precipitation within the Earth’s atmosphere in the form of crystalline water ice, consisting of a multitude of snowflakes that fall from clouds. Snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The process of precipitating snow is called snowfall.

    Once on the ground, snow can be categorized as powdery when fluffy, granular when it begins the cycle of melting and refreezing, and eventually ice once it packs down, after multiple melting and refreezing cycles, into a dense mass called snow pack.

    When powdery, snow moves with the wind from the location where it originally landed, forming deposits called snowdrifts which may have a depth of several meters.

    The existence of a snowpack keeps temperatures colder than they would be otherwise, as the whiteness of the snow reflects most sunlight, and the absorbed heat goes into melting the snow rather than increasing its temperature. (Dec 18 & 19, 2009)

    Rodeo is a sport which arose out of the working practices of cattle herding in Spain, Mexico, and later the US, Canada, South America and Australia.

    Bull riding is a rodeo sport that involves a rider getting on a large bull and attempting to stay mounted for at least 8 seconds while the animal attempts to buck off the rider. The rider tightly fastens one hand to the bull with a long braided rope. It is a risky sport and has been called “the most dangerous eight seconds in sports.”

    Headquartered in Colorado, the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. was created in 1992 when a group of 20 visionary bull riders broke away from the traditional rodeo scene seeking mainstream attention for the sport of professional bull riding.

    There is a heated debate between animal rights organizations and bull riding enthusiasts over many aspects of the sport. The first controversy is over the use of a flank strap. Critics also claim that “hot shots”, electric cattle prods, are used to injure and torture the bulls. Cattle prods have not been used in the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) tour for several years.

    Fort Worth is in the Prairies and Lakes region of Texas. It is part of the Dallas/Fort Worth-Arlington metroplex. Sometimes referred to as Cowtown, it is by far closer to its cowboy roots than neighboring Dallas.

    The Fort Worth Historic Stockyards is a one of a kind location with many unique attractions. It is the only place in the US that has a daily cattle drive! Texas Longhorns are driven down East Exchange Avenue which is right in the heart of the Stockyards.
