    The Inspired by His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj, a handful of devotees began conducting weekly assemblies in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1984, His Holiness inaugurated the first BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Whittier, California, a small suburb just outside of Los Angeles. With the guidance and blessings of His Holiness, the congregation grew from just a handful of families to a strong group of dedicated devotees who yearned for spiritual growth.

    Southern Californias gateway to the cosmos! Visitors can look through telescopes, explore exhibits, see live shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, and enjoy spectacular views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign.

    Parking at the Observatory is free but limited. The busiest times are usually on weekends and holidays. There may be an uphill walk to the Observatory from some of the parking available along the roads and near the Greek Theatre. Visitors are encouraged to carpool, organize bus trips, hike, cycle, or even take a taxi.

    Better to go early and the observatory will open at Noon(12PM). Monday is holiday.

    With its spectacular Zeiss star projector, laser digital projection system, state-of-the-art aluminum dome, comfy seats, sound system, and theatrical lighting, the 290-seat Samuel Oschin Planetarium theater is the finest planetarium in the world. Every show is presented by a live, engaging storyteller.

    Located near Los Feliz Blvd and Riverside Drive at the South end of Griffith park, GPS Railroad occupies a location where miniature trains have operated since the late 1940s.

    The current ride was built in the mid 1960s. The Station, passenger loading sructure, train barn, tunnel and bridge were all built at that time. The track is approximately 1 mile long. This gauge is unique to our knowledge in the United States.

    The trains that run at GPS are 1/3rd scale reproductions of classic American trains of the 20th Century. The Freedom Train is one of the original trains that operated in the 1950s.
