Fall River’s motto is “Pride Citywide”, but is currently being changed. It is nicknamed “The Scholarship City”, which is seen on the welcome signs upon entering the city.
Fall River has the highest percentage (over 40%) of Portuguese of any city in the country; most are of Azorean descent. Fall River was the largest cotton textile manufacturing area in the late 1800s (AKA Spindle City).

Fall River Heritage State Park sits on the shoreline of the Taunton River, next to the Charles M. Braga Jr. Memorial Bridge and across from the World War II Battleship the USS Massachusetts (BB-59). Eight and a half acres in size, it is a common place for residents of the city to relax and enjoy the beauty of Battleship Cove.
