    San Francisco built Pulgas Water Temple as a monument to the engineering marvel that brought Hetch Hetchy water more than 160 miles across California from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the Bay Area. The Hetch Hetchy Project took 24 years to build through the Great Depression at a cost of $102 million.

    On October 28, 1934, the roar of Hetch Hetchy mountain water greeted everyone gathered at Pulgas Water Temple to celebrate its arrival.

    Pulgas Water Temple is located about one-half mile south of the Canada Road trailhead.

    The Marine Science Institute honored Planet Earth with the annual – Earth Day on the Bay – event from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2015.

    They are open to the public just once a year and they have made sure to bundle as much wonder, fun, and knowledge into a single day as possible.

    The Marine Science Institute was founded in 1970, around the time that the issue of water resources was becoming a major concern for many Bay Area inhabitants.

    This popular 3 hour Battle Sails feature booming cannons, close-quarters maneuvers, and a taste of 18th century maritime life aboard tall ships. Passengers are invited to raise the sails, verbally taunt their opponents, and sing the chorus on a sea shanty.
