The Washington International Horse Show (WIHS), a leading equestrian event in the U.S., celebrates its 54th year in 2012. This championship event, drawing leading horses and riders from around the nation and the world, is one of the few remaining major metropolitan indoor horse shows and is a pinnacle of the annual equestrian season. The show takes place each October at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., attracting the attention of tens of thousands of equestrians, non-equestrians, celebrities and politicos alike with events such as show jumping, dressage, hunter and equitation competition, plus Kids Day, Barn Night, special exhibitions, shopping and hospitality.
Highlights include the $100,000 Presidents Cup Grand Prix, the Puissance (high jump) and WIHS Equitation Finals featuring the countrys top junior riders.

Horse-crazy or not, if you like championship sport and fast-paced entertainment and fun, this is the event for you. An equestrian tradition since 1958, the Washington International Horse Show brings top horses and riders from the U.S. and abroad, including Olympic champions, to the nation’s capital to compete for more than $400,000 in prize money and championship titles. About 500 horses participate in show jumping, hunter and equitation events during the six-day show. Special exhibitions, shopping in more than 50 specialty boutiques and Kids’ Day on Saturday, round out this family-friendly show.

Saturday, Oct. 29 Evening (7:00-10:30 pm)
You may spot a future Olympian among the riders in the WIHS Equitation Classic Finals, where the top junior riders compete for the championship. Show jumping culminates with the $100,000 President’s Cup Grand Prix. This class will have the biggest jumps of all the classes and attracts the top horses and riders, including Olympic veterans. Riders will also gain valuable points to qualify for the World Cup Finals in April.
