Mavericks is a surfing location in Northern California. It is located approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) from shore outside Pillar Point Harbor, just north of the town of Half Moon Bay at the village of Princeton-by-the-Sea. After a strong winter storm in the northern Pacific Ocean, waves can routinely crest at over 25 feet (7.6 m) and top out at over 80 feet (24 m). The break is caused by an unusually shaped underwater rock formation.

Four miles of broad, sandy beaches stretch out to welcome visitors to Half Moon Bay. This picturesque setting is ideal for sunbathing, fishing and picnicking. A campground provides accommodations for those who wish to visit longer.
The beach is located a half-mile west of Highway 1 with 3 parking lots in the City of Half Moon Bay. The three parking and beach access points are Francis Beach, Venice Beach and Dunes Beach. The Ocean – Always use caution when you are in or near the ocean. The ocean water is very cold year round.

Alcatraz Island is located in the San Francisco Bay, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) offshore from San Francisco. Often referred to as -The Rock-, the small island was developed with facilities for a lighthouse, a military fortification, a military prison (1868), and a federal prison from 1933 until 1963.
In 1972, Alcatraz became a national recreation area and received designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1986.

Parking at the Observatory is free but limited. The busiest times are usually on weekends and holidays. There may be an uphill walk to the Observatory from some of the parking available along the roads and near the Greek Theatre. Visitors are encouraged to carpool, organize bus trips, hike, cycle, or even take a taxi.
Better to go early and the observatory will open at Noon(12PM). Monday is holiday.

Located near Los Feliz Blvd and Riverside Drive at the South end of Griffith park, GPS Railroad occupies a location where miniature trains have operated since the late 1940s.
The current ride was built in the mid 1960s. The Station, passenger loading sructure, train barn, tunnel and bridge were all built at that time. The track is approximately 1 mile long. This gauge is unique to our knowledge in the United States.
The trains that run at GPS are 1/3rd scale reproductions of classic American trains of the 20th Century. The Freedom Train is one of the original trains that operated in the 1950s.
