    Patterson Park is one of the oldest parks in Baltimore, spanning 300 years of the citys spirited history.

    The first known resident of what is now Patterson Park was Quinton Parker in 1669. At that time, it was possible to navigate a small boat up Harris Creek from the Patapsco River right into Patterson Park.

    On Hampstead Hill, the ridge where the Pagoda now stands, Baltimoreans rallied on September 12, 1814 to protect the city from the threat of a British invasion.

    Patterson Park boasts:

    * Almost three miles of paved paths for running, walking and biking,
    * Ten tennis courts, located along Linwood Avenue between Baltimore Street and Eastern Avenue,
    * 4 full basketball courts, located near the pool;
    * A swimming pool, open to the public between early June and late August;
    * An ice skating rink opens from October through March for hockey, broomball and public ice-skating; and
    * Many multi-use playing fields
    * The Pagoda, originally known as the Observatory, was designed in 1890 by Charles H. Latrobe, then Superintendent of Parks.

    This 77-acre park features three baseball fields; an open-play area; a large playground for all abilities; two tennis courts; two basketball courts; two picnic pavilions; and approximately 2.5 miles of sidewalks and pathways, plus a 2.5-mile loop circling the park, parking, landscape, and restroom facilities.

    All of our parks are inhabited by a wide variety of wildlife such as deer, snakes, fish, rabbits, insects and birds. Please do not disturb them; remember, this is their home.

    Durga temple was the first temple of Bhagwati Durgaji built in USA. This temple is the place of worship for people of all Hindu faiths. The deities in this temple include Durgaji, Shiv-Parivar, Shri Radha-Krishna, Ram darbar, Hanumanji, Lakshmi-Narayanji, Balaji, Shri Mahavirji, Shri Jhulelalji, Shri Shridi Saibaba and Maa Santoshi. The priests provide religious services at the temple and outside locations. All major Hindu festivals are celebrated. The temple holds a variety of educational cultural activities.

  • Lake Fairfax Park, Reston, VA, US – Pictures – Upcoming Video

    Lake Fairfax Parks 476 acres feature:

    An 18-acre lake, The Water Mine – an outdoor swimming pool enveloped by a lazy river; seasonal fishing, campgrounds, picnic areas, trails, party areas, a carousel, and playground. Nominal fees are charged for the Water Mine, carousel, boating, and camping. Swimming and windsurfing are prohibited in the lake.

    Brookside Gardens is Montgomery Countys incomparable, award-winning 50-acre public display garden situated within Wheaton Regional Park.

  • Maryland House of Correction Public Tour, Jessup, MD, US – Pictures – Upcoming Video

    Public Open House – August 4 and 5, 2012 – 8:30am to 12pm

    The historic Maryland House of Correction, opened in 1879 and closed in 2007, will open its doors one last time before deconstruction begins later this year. MHC is the second oldest state correctional facility. The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services has developed a unique Public Safety Works program where offenders, working under a contractor, will take down the House brick by brick while learning deconstruction skills and salvaging building materials that would otherwise take up space in Maryland landfills.

    In conjunction with the Maryland Historic Trust, the Department will be conducting two days of tours this summer to educate citizens about correctional practices of the past, while also preserving the historical significance of the building. On Jul 14 and 15 tours were held for DPSCS employees past and present, along with their families. Over 500 people attended. The public tour will be held Aug 4 and 5.
