    * The beautiful and picturesque temple lies on top of Indrrakiladri Hills and enshrines Goddess Kanaka Durga. The hill offers some amazing vistas of the city.

    * The Prakasam Barrage is built across the Krishna River and is imposing in appearance. It stretches 1,223.5 metres across the river, over a lake and is the largest barrage in Asia.

    * Spread over an area of 133 acres, Bhavani Island is a river island that offers a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

    It is a place to rest, relax and enjoy oneself with its mangroves, well-manicured gardens, pristine woodlands, rolling meadows and shimmering water bodies.

    Bhavani Island is a popular picnic spot, where children can run around carefree while adults can enjoy the energising and refreshing ambience. Situated in Krishna River, the island is quite close to Prakasam Barrage. There are great boating facilities, which allow visitors to explore the river.

    The swimming pools on the island are well-maintained and clean. Visitors, who do not want to spend time in the pools, can opt for other watersports or try their hand at fishing and angling.

    Ponnur Temples are very famous in our region as the 30 to 40 feet high monolithic statues of Hanuman and Garud are in the temple along with Sahasra lingeswara swamy (1001 Shiva Lingas).

    Vodarevu beach is 6 km from Chirala in Prakasam district. It is also near to Suryalanka Beach, Bapatla. Vodarevu beach has a gorgeous beach. Vodarevu beach is fairly famous with tourists regularly, this too is a nice getaway from the movement and hustle of city life. There is a constant inflow of tourists spending their weekends in these peaceful settings as the place is very nice to visit and for relaxation.

    Vodarevu beach makes quite a nice weekend hideout and has got quite a good share of tourist inflow, mainly because of its peaceful setting.

    Ramapuram beach is undoubtedly one of the best beaches in Andhra, the Beach is relatively empty during most days apart from few fisherfolk which is probably the reason for the cleanliness. Must Visit if you are a sea person and happen to be around!

    The structure of the Prakasam Barrage stretches 1223.5 m across the Krishna River connecting Krishna and Guntur districts. The barrage serves also as a road bridge and spans over a lake. The three canals associated with the barrage run through the city of Vijayawada crossing it and giving it a Venetian appearance.

    It began in the hands of captain Buckle and was revised in 1839 and 1841 by captain Best and captain Lake. After the endorsement of Major Cotton, the board of Directors of East India Company approved it on 5 January 1850. The dam was started in 1852 and completed in 1855.

    Later, the Government constructed a bridge that was named after Tanguturi Prakasam, the first Chief Minister of Andhra.

    The dam provides views of the lake. It has become a tourist attraction of Vijayawada. Barrage has total 76 pillars in total, 70 pillars belongs to Guntur district and 6pillars belongs to Krishna district.

    The Undavalli Caves, a monolithic example of Indian rock-cut architecture and one of the finest testimonials to ancient viswakarma sthapathis, are located in Undavalli of Guntur district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The caves are located 6 km south west from Vijayawada, 22 km north east of Guntur City.

    These caves were carved out of solid sandstone on a hillside in the 4th to 5th centuries A.D. There are several caves and the best known largest one has four stories with a huge recreated statue of Vishnu in a reclining posture, sculpted from a single block of granite inside the second floor.

    Undavalli caves are an example of how many Buddhist artifacts and stupas in Andhra were converted into Hindu temples and deities.

    It was originally a Jain cave resembling the architecture of Udayagiri and Khandgiri. The main cave is one of the earliest examples of Gupta architecture, primarily primitive rock-cut monastery cells carved into the sandstone hills.

    The walls of the caves display sculptures carved by skilled craftsmen. The caves are associated with the Jain kings of 420 to 620 A.D.

    The caves are surrounded by the green countryside. From the high hill above the cave overlooking the Krishna River many fine specimens of rock cut architecture can be seen.

    There is a legend about the caves that says that there exists a 9 kilometres long underground tunnel leading to the sacred Mangalgiri Mountain, although it has never been found.

    Prime minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Andhra Pradeshs new capital Amaravati at Uddandarayunipalem village in Guntur district on Oct 22, 2015.

    Union Ministers M Venkaiah Naidu, Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Nirmala Sitaraman, AP and Telangana Governor E S L Narasimhan and Chief Ministers of AP and Telangana N Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao, respectively, were among those present on the occasion of -shila nyas- in the village, about 40 kms from Vijayawada, the commercial hub of the state.

    As per a call given by CM Chandrababu Naidu, soil and water from 16,000 villages in the state and prominent pilgrim centres in the country have been brought to the capital region to be used in the construction of the capital city.

    Singapore government agencies have prepared the master plans for the three-layered capital — seed capital, capital city and capital region.
