    The San Leandro Cherry Festival is a long-standing San Leandro tradition celebrating their past, present and future! The first Cherry Festival was held in 1909. Many things have changed over the years but one thing that remains the same is the strong sense of community identity and pride the Cherry Festival brings to the San Leandro community!

    Over 10,000 people attend the Cherry Festival to partake in food, a beer garden, live entertainment, handmade arts and crafts, a special Kids Zone with rides and games, parade, Farmers Market with lots of cherries, community and City resources, and a cherry store selling everything cherry!

    President Millard Fillmore established the Presidio for military use in November 1850. During the 1850s and 1860s, Presidio-based soldiers fought Native Americans in California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada.

    The outbreak of the Civil War in 1861 re-emphasized the importance of Californias riches and the military significance of San Franciscos harbor to the Union. This led, in 1862, to the first major construction and expansion program at the Presidio since the United States acquired it.

    On Dec. 12, 1884, the War Department designated 9 acres, including the site of the old post cemetery, as San Francisco National Cemetery. It was the first national cemetery established on the West Coast and, as such, marks the growth and development of a system of national cemeteries extending beyond the battlefields of the Civil War.

    In 1989, the Presidio closed as a military entity and was transferred to the National Park Service in October 1994.

    San Francisco National Cemetery was listed as a National Historic Landmark as part of the Presidio in 1962.

    * Noon: 21-Gun Salute with the U.S. Armys 75th Pacific Division

    Join veterans, families, and the community for the annual Memorial Day commemoration at the Presidio. The formal program includes music and remarks by military and civilian dignitaries.

    The 2015 ceremony will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the 40th Anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.

    Rolling green lawns and colorful showy blooms highlight the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden. In fact, hardly a day passes when some species is not in full bloom, with more than 3,500 plantings and 189 varieties featured.

    San Joses 5 1/2 acre Municipal Rose Garden – a one-time prune orchard – is today one of the most attractive of its kind in the world, drawing thousands of visitors each year. The garden is exclusively devoted to shrubs of the rose family and features over 4,000 rose shrubs with 189 varieties represented. Hybrid – teas comprise 75% of the plantings. These shrubs are characterized by a single high centered bloom per stem.

    The parade began at the Civic Center at 1:00 p.m., proceeded up Polk to Post Street, and ended in Japantown. A number of performers from Japan also graced us with their presence. Japanese classical (Buyo) and folk dance (Minyo) groups representing the Bay Area performed throughout the parade route like a myriad of floating butterflies.

    Highly honored Boy Scout Troops from the Japanese American communities marched proudly along the streets. Streams of colorful floats carried by young women representing Japanese American and other Asian American communities.

    World renowned San Francisco Taiko Dojo kept the parade upbeat with the thundering sound of the taiko, and this years Queen and her Court cascaded their way to Japantown.

    జపాను దేశానికి చెందిన చెర్రీ పూలు పూయు/వికసించు పండుగ/ఉత్సవం శాన్ ఫ్రాన్సిస్కో మహా నగరంలో అధ్బుతంగా జరిగింది. ఆ సందర్భంగా గొప్ప ఊరేగింపు(క్రమ విన్యాసము) జరిగింది. రంగు రంగుల దుస్తులతో పిల్లలు పెద్దలు జపాను సాంప్రదాయ పద్ధతిలొ ఎలా అలరించారో మీరే చూడండి.

    Anchoring the parade was the exciting Taru Mikoshi, that hoisted by over one hundred strong individuals from throughout the Bay Area. It was a spectacle not to be missed.

    The Grand Marshal for 2015 is Ambassador John V Roos. John was the US Ambassador to Japan from August 2009 – August 2013.
