    Telangana Cultural Association(TCA) in association with Telangana Jagruthi celebrated Bathukamma and Dussara festival on Oct 02.

    Honorable MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha Garu is the Chief Guest for this event. Large crowd participated in this fabulous Bathukamma event in Bay Area.

    Bathukamma is floral festival celebrated by the Hindu women of Telangana. Every year this festival is celebrated as per Telugu version of Hindu calendar in the Bhadrapada Amavasya, also known as Mahalaya Amavasya, usually in September–October of Gregorian calendar. Bathukamma is celebrated for nine days during Durga Navratri.

    Bathukamma represents cultural spirit of Telangana. Bathukamma is a beautiful flower stack, arranged with different unique seasonal flowers most of them with medicinal values, in 7 concentric layers in the shape of temple gopuram. In Telugu, Bathukamma means -Mother Goddess come Alive-.

    It is the festival for feminine felicitation. On this special occasion women dress up in the traditional sari combining it with jewels and other accessories.

    For the nine days, in the evening, women, especially young girls, gather in large numbers with their Bathukammas in open areas of their locality. All women will form a circle around the Bathukamma and start singing folk songs by clapping their hands and revolving around the Bathukamma, synchronizing steps and claps in unison provide a splendorous look to the festivities. Women seek good health, prosperity and happiness for their families. The songs are to invoke the blessings of various goddesses. By principle, the rendition end with any one of the following three tributes Uyyaala , Chandamama or Gouramma.

    Step back in time to learn about the first technology of early humans. Joined them for a fun-filled day at the Stone Age Olympics.

    Cast a Paleolithic dart thrower (atlatl), make fire by rubbing sticks together, throw a rabbit stick, fling a bolas, create a cave painting and participate in other age appropriate primeval activities.

    Watch skilled flintknappers transform rocks into arrowheads and various functional tools.

    Railfair 2016 was held over Labor Day weekend and featured -Ann-Marie- an 1890 Porter 0-4-0T steam engine as well as model railroads, speeder rides, antique farm equipment, and other activities. Over 7,500 visitors attended (along with several hundred exhibitors) and over 8,000 visitors rode the steam train and speeder (some people rode more than once!). (more solid numbers will be available soon.)

    The annual Haunted Train is scheduled for the nights of the last two weekends in October.

    Today the SPCRR is the Society for the Preservation of Carter Railroad Resources, a non-profit corporation operating the Railroad Museum at Ardenwood Historic Farm Regional Park in Fremont, California close to the original Carter Shops in Newark.

    A Ratha-Yatra or Roth Jatra or Chariot Festival is a Hindu festival that involves transporting deities on a chariot (called a ratha or roth). The festival originated in Puri in the State of Orissa. The rath(chariot) is carrying Lord Jaggannath and due to its massive size and weight and sometimes seeminlgy unstoppable nature.

    The Ratha Yatra festival has become a common sight in most major cities of the world since 1968 through the ISKCON Hare Krishna movement.

    Celebrated our nations Independance Day with thousands of parade onlookers! Came early, reserved spot, and joined in the fun while watching whimsical floats, fantastic giant balloons, and marching bands. There are few surprises too!

    Parade kicked off at 10 AM and preceded by the singing of our National Anthem and a flyover.

    Gurdwara (the door or the gateway to the Guru) is the name given to the Sikhs place of worship, commonly addressed as Sikh temple in the western world. The Sikh scriptures are recited or sung and sermons are delivered. Guru Granth Sahib is placed on high palanquin under a canopy in the middle of one end of the hall. As well as sermons and the singing of the scriptures, the con­gregation is expected to participate in the ceremonies of birth, baptism, marriage, death and celebration of festivals.

    The Gurdwara sahib is open 7 days a week and holds daily programs for local Sikhs and visitors to pray and seek blessings. It has more than 9000 registered members.

    Since its establishment, Fremont Gurdwara has been consistently involved in providing help and sharing (Vand Chakna) with the needy and homeless people around the world, especially during disasters. During Katrina, the Tsunami in Thailand, and the earthquake in South Asia, Fremont Gurdwara donated thousands of dollars, food, clothes, blankets and items to keep up personal hygiene.

    Before entering the hall, people take off their shoes, wash their hands, covers their head and think of the Guru. Non-Sikhs too must cover their head with a handkerchief or scarf.

    Visited to a jewel of an East Bay park and spend a day of adventure and learned that allows us to get close to natures flying critters at the Annual Butterfly and Bird Festival on Sunday, June 5, 2016.

    The special event was dedicated to increasing the numbers and species of butterflies and birds in Bay Area landscapes. Enjoyed garden tours, family hands-on activities, educational speakers, photo presentations and music. Learned how to bring our backyard to life by creating wildlife friendly habitats.
