A Ratha-Yatra or Roth Jatra or Chariot Festival is a Hindu festival that involves transporting deities on a chariot (called a ratha or roth). The festival originated in Puri in the State of Orissa. The rath(chariot) is carrying Lord Jaggannath and due to its massive size and weight and sometimes seeminlgy unstoppable nature.
The Ratha Yatra festival has become a common sight in most major cities of the world since 1968 through the ISKCON Hare Krishna movement.

Celebrated our nations Independance Day with thousands of parade onlookers! Came early, reserved spot, and joined in the fun while watching whimsical floats, fantastic giant balloons, and marching bands. There are few surprises too!
Parade kicked off at 10 AM and preceded by the singing of our National Anthem and a flyover.

India Community Centers annual Sevathon will be held on June 26, 2016 in downtown San Jose, Area Green East (Across from the SAP Center).
At Sevathon over 5,000 walkers, runners and yoga enthusiasts raised money for any of the 100+ participating non-profit partners of their choice. These partners consist of passionate people who work tirelessly to effect change, whether in the Bay Area or on the other side of the planet.
The day long race features a professionally timed 5K, 10K, half marathon and a marathon of Surya Namaskars (Sun Salutation) which are a series of yoga poses performed in continuous flow. Experience great live music, performances, booths and food at the event.

Gurdwara (the door or the gateway to the Guru) is the name given to the Sikhs place of worship, commonly addressed as Sikh temple in the western world. The Sikh scriptures are recited or sung and sermons are delivered. Guru Granth Sahib is placed on high palanquin under a canopy in the middle of one end of the hall. As well as sermons and the singing of the scriptures, the congregation is expected to participate in the ceremonies of birth, baptism, marriage, death and celebration of festivals.
The Gurdwara sahib is open 7 days a week and holds daily programs for local Sikhs and visitors to pray and seek blessings. It has more than 9000 registered members.
Since its establishment, Fremont Gurdwara has been consistently involved in providing help and sharing (Vand Chakna) with the needy and homeless people around the world, especially during disasters. During Katrina, the Tsunami in Thailand, and the earthquake in South Asia, Fremont Gurdwara donated thousands of dollars, food, clothes, blankets and items to keep up personal hygiene.
Before entering the hall, people take off their shoes, wash their hands, covers their head and think of the Guru. Non-Sikhs too must cover their head with a handkerchief or scarf.
Celebration of 2nd International Day of Yoga, San Francisco, CA, USA – Pictures
The Consulate General of India, San Francisco has organized the 2nd International Yoga Day (IYD) in San Francisco on June 18, 2016 from 9.00 AM-1 PM at County Fair Building, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.
The event was organized in association with several Yoga associations based in San Francisco and Bay Area including Isha Foundation, Brahmakumaris, Art of Living, Self Realization Fellowship, Path to Anandam, Yoga Society of San Francisco, Yoga Ascent of North America (YANA) etc.
The event was inaugurated by Consul General Shri Ashok Venkatesan who stated that India is the birth place of Yoga and at present, it is being practiced widely by people of many countries. The programme started with the screening of the Video Messages of Honarable Prime Minister of India and Honarable Minister of External Affairs, followed by common Yoga Protocol. Subsequently, several sessions on different aspects of Yoga were held by the Yoga Partners of the event.
The event was attended by around 1200-1500 people from San Francisco, the Bay Area and other places of California. Most of the participants were local US Citizens which mainly included women and youngsters, who have attended with mush enthusiasm and interest.
